At the beginning of November, the Latvian Radio Choir will perform a new concert program ''Light''

The concert programme Gaisma (Light) has been created around the catalan composer Ramon Humet’s piece LlumI (Light). The composition is based on seven important steps in the spiritual journey of Vicenç Santamaria, a monk in the Monastery of Montserrat. A peaceful chant on the gathering of souls turns into a story about the twists and turns of life that are so familiar to us all… And in opposition of doubt, there is faith- and hope-filled praise of God and a message of peace that inhabits the soul.

The Barcelona-born Ramon Humet’s (1968) music is often described as glistening, vibrant, meditative and naturally flowing, and being outside of time.

The concert will also feature Juris Karlsons’ composition Gaisma (Light) with the words of Jesus Christ “I am the Light of the World”, as well as Santa Ratniece’s score for the film Natural Light / Dabīgā gaismā. The film won the Silver Bear prize of the Berlinale film festival, and Santa Ratniece won the Lielais Kristaps Film Award as the best composer.

Pēteris Vasks’ new piece Actus Caritatis will see its Latvian premiere, and we shall also hear a lullaby by the Russian-born and Netherlands-based composer Alfred Momotenko Levitsky - a composer with a warm and compassionate musical style. There will be premieres for choir and harp by Edgars Mākens and the Poland-based Latvian composer and organist Renāte Stivriņa whose creative work contains a lot of sacred pieces.
